If you are looking for a place to share, to be heard, to heal, and to grow, you are in the right place.
I see therapy as a partnership that can lead you towards more self-awareness, connection, and growth. The fit between therapist and client is essential- it is important to me that you feel safe, respected, cared for, and challenged to grow. I greatly admire my clients for their courage to be vulnerable, and I view symptoms, imbalance, or conflict in our lives as an opportunity for curiosity and to make change.
My style involves listening to your feelings, beliefs, stories, and desires. I use mindfulness skills to help orient you to the present moment through reminders and by teaching body awareness. Clients report that these skills lead to enhanced self-awareness, a greater ability to regulate emotions and memories, and an overall better understanding of reactions and triggers. Therapy takes shape based on what is needed - a place to be heard, insight and exploration, skill building, and/or education. I believe that you are more than a diagnosis or set of experiences, and we work together to create a unique path for healing. Together, we look at your beliefs and actions to see if they are helping you achieve the life you want to live and your desired change.
At some point in our lives, most of us will experience a traumatic event, or something that feels overwhelming and too much to bear. We may not have received the kind of care we needed to process and be with the pain, fear, or confusion that we were experiencing. These painful experiences can then get lodged in our brains and nervous systems and can affect the way we experience the world, the way we feel about ourselves, our behaviors, our relationships, our fears, our hopes. In order to survive, we develop adaptive strategies to get through the event. Therapy with me can help you to understand, appreciate, and honor these survival skills, and explore how they may be or may not be serving you any longer. Once you are awakened to why and what you have had to do to get through hardships, you can then open to transforming and claiming the life you want. Together, we can process the trauma using evidence-based models so that you can feel less burdened from limiting beliefs or symptoms.
“Our true nature is like a precious jewel: although it may be temporarily buried in mud, it remains completely brilliant and unaffected. We simply have to uncover it.”— Pema Chodron
